"We are learning through projects because in the future we will have to do projects and not read things out of a book and memorize it." Madi

Hello everyone and welcome again to my Blog

Today I am gone reflect on Project-Based Learning (PBL).

PBL is an approach to teaching designed to allow students to develop knowledge and skills through engaging projects that revolve around challenges and problems they may face in the real world.

If we stop to think, life is made up of small tasks that we must solve to move forward. In this sense, when we help students have authentic experiences, we prepare them for the real world, preparing them to be self-sufficient, creative, and critical thinkers and to take on any challenge in the future.

  • In short, if we want to prepare students for success in life, we must prepare them for a project-based world. Therefore, when relating the benefits of project-based learning to students, we must always include real-world application examples. This will reinforce to students that they can break down future problems into their components, and assemble and lead a diverse team of stakeholders to process the problem and implement a solution.

The ABP model consists of the following 7 characteristics:

  • Focuses on a large, open-ended question, challenge, or problem for the student to investigate and answer or solve.
  • It brings into the equation what students should know, understand, and be able to do academically.
  • It is inquiry-based, stimulates intrinsic curiosity, and raises questions as it helps students search for answers.
  • Use 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity, among others.
  • Incorporates student opinions and choices into the process.
  • Provide opportunities for feedback and review of the plan and project, just like in real life.
  • It requires students to present their problems, research process, methods, and results, just like scientific research or real-world projects should be before peer review and constructive criticism.

In the traditional method of learning, short-term memorization and summative evaluation are practiced; in contrast, the PBL allows students to engage deeply with the targeted content, making for a much more effective focus on long-term retention.

On the other hand, PBL also improves students' attitudes toward education, thanks to its ability to keep students engaged: the PBL structure lends itself to developing intrinsic motivation because it centers student learning around a central question or problem and a significant result. Finally, students end up wanting to understand the answer or solution.

As a final point, this model also improves students' technological skills. The PBL helps students develop teamwork and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively with others. The collaborative nature of the projects also reinforces the social and emotional learning (SEL) programs that are already being implemented in schools around the world.

Multiple Intelligences and 21st Skills/Principles of Cooperative learning

Hello my dear classmates and welcome to my blog!😍
It's quite interesting how people from 'hating' or disliking something, start getting used to it and love the thing and they do it with desire and passion.

I am talking from my experience because that happened with this app where I found it very difficult to use and now I like the concept and the new perspective on how we communicate with each other according to the 'boring lectures' where here are transforming creative and interesting things to learn and to proper use in our future as teachers.

This week I am going to share with you a reflection on Multiple Intelligences, Multimedia  ,Cooperative Learning, and 21st-century skills.

The concept of multiple intelligences💭 is a theory proposed by Harvard psychologist Howard Gardner. When you hear the word intelligence, the concept of IQ testing may immediately come to mind. Intelligence is often defined as our intellectual potential; something we are born with, something that can be measured, and a capacity that is difficult to change. I am so glad that I learned about multiple intelligences because always, I have had the certainty that we all are intelligent but not at the same rate in all fields of information. Because we can't share the same feelings about social environment or some memories from our childhood just because we have the same Iq test. These 'bits of intelligence' prove the fact that we are unique in our multiple intelligences and we can learn new things for ourselves every day, so not just only as a teacher, my advice would be: never stop learning for things that evaluate and certificate our inner thoughts as human beings.

Multimedia 📸is part of educational software and many define it as an object or product that uses a combination of media: text, color, graphics, animations, video, and sound, in the same environment, where the student interacts with the resources to improve the teaching-learning process. Speaking from the student's point of view I couldn't imagine a class without multimedia.

So, what brings multimedia?

  • Versatility (adaptation to different contexts).
  • Originality and use of advanced technology.
  • Ability to motivate.
  • Quality of the audiovisual environment.
  • Potentiality of didactic resources.
  • Encourages self-initiative and self-learning.

Collaborative and cooperative learning👧👦👩👨 seem like two similar learning concepts, but they have some important differences. The collaboration focuses on the importance of the process, and cooperation gives greater importance to the goal of said work. Both processes are perfectly complementary. While collaboration is usually more common in higher education, the cooperative is more associated with primary education.

21st-century skills 🧠are skills students need to be successful today. They are classified as follows:

  • Learning and innovation skills: creativity and innovation, critical thinking and problem-solving, communication, and collaboration.
  • Information, Media, and Technology Literacy: Information, Media, and Computer Literacy
  • Skills for life and career: flexibility and adaptability, initiative and autonomy, sociability and intercultural competence, productivity, leadership, and responsibility.

The world 🗺is changing, and education must do with it. It seems clear, therefore, that this must adapt to the demands and needs of the 21st century, to train future men and women capable of developing their digital skills and critical spirit. It is essential, so as not to get lost in the vast ocean of knowledge that is the Internet.

This lecture was so interesting, I learned new facts for myself, I have a clear vision of each topic, I know how to use them perfectly in a classroom situation and I think that each one has essential importance to succeed in the 'educational pathway'.

Thank you for reading, hope you all got a gaze from my reflection.

See you next week.😍

“Tech gives the quietest student a voice''-Jerry Blumengarten

Teachers will not be replaced by technology, but teachers who don't use technology will be replaced by those who do!

Firstly, I would like to say that I found it very interesting and I liked it very much the quote by Sheryl Nussbaum Beach in the video provided. It shows perfectly the slight difference that technology never replaces the teacher BUT it’s a main key with its methods and innovative techniques that makes easier the way towards the success of teaching in a classroom.

Also, I would like to provide three more advantages of the use of technology in language teaching.

Closeness

As digital natives, the new generations have grown up surrounded by technology and are used to doing everything supported by digital devices and the Internet. It seems natural to make video, audio or social content available to them. In this way, it connects with their preferences and this helps to maintain their motivation and interest in language study.

Engagement increases when students engage with technology inside and outside of the classroom. They not only act as receivers of information but also take an active role in their own learning.

Evaluation and monitoring

Educational platforms specialized in languages such as (Quizzes, Mentimeter, and Voluxion) allow teachers to propose exercises and tests that are evaluated in real-time, sending an answer on the spot to students so that they can analyze their mistakes and learn from them. With this information, teachers can know the performance of their students at all times and adjust the syllabus to the rhythm of the class so that no one is left behind.

Furthermore, with the interactive tools, you don't have to wait for the exams to know if they are really understanding the syllabus. Each exercise returns immediate feedback that is used to take the pulse of students individually or collectively at any time and after any lesson.

On the other hand, one of the biggest disadvantages of incorporating technology into English teaching is the unrealistic expectations of the impact that this can generate. Some hope that the courses will change as necessary and the incorporation of English will become a much easier process.

It is impressive how Philip Shawcross surfaces the technology today and tomorrow because we never look back at how strange was technology yesterday to us and how essential is for us today in teaching methods and everything else.” New technology is first and foremost an opportunity to rethink teaching methods in order to make the most of the human potential of learners and teachers alike.  “

Based on the Literary Review of Yong Zhaoa specific technology may hold great educational potential, but, until it is used properly, it may not have any positive impact at all on learning. And that’s the power we have as teachers, to use the technology in the interest of ours and to ameliorate the teaching method.

This was my first reflection and I am very excited for this new journey, thank you for visiting my blog.

See you next week.
