Teachers will not be replaced by technology, but teachers who don't use technology will be replaced by those who do!
Firstly, I would like to say that I found it very interesting and I liked it very much the quote by Sheryl Nussbaum Beach in the video provided. It shows perfectly the slight difference that technology never replaces the teacher BUT it’s a main key with its methods and innovative techniques that makes easier the way towards the success of teaching in a classroom.
Also, I would like to provide three more advantages of the use of technology in
language teaching.
Closeness
As digital natives, the new generations have grown up surrounded by
technology and are used to doing everything supported by digital devices and
the Internet. It seems natural to make video, audio or social content available
to them. In this way, it connects with their preferences and this helps to
maintain their motivation and interest in language study.
Engagement
increases when students engage with technology inside and outside of the
classroom. They not only act as receivers of information but also take an
active role in their own learning.
Evaluation and monitoring
Educational platforms specialized in languages such as (Quizzes,
Mentimeter, and Voluxion) allow teachers to propose exercises and tests that are
evaluated in real-time, sending an answer on the spot to students so that they
can analyze their mistakes and learn from them. With this information, teachers
can know the performance of their students at all times and adjust the syllabus
to the rhythm of the class so that no one is left behind.
Furthermore, with the interactive tools, you don't have to wait for the
exams to know if they are really understanding the syllabus. Each exercise
returns immediate feedback that is used to take the pulse of students
individually or collectively at any time and after any lesson.
On the other hand, one of the biggest disadvantages of incorporating
technology into English teaching is the unrealistic expectations of the impact
that this can generate. Some hope that the courses will change as necessary and
the incorporation of English will become a much easier process.
It is impressive how Philip Shawcross surfaces
the technology today and tomorrow because we never look back at how strange
was technology yesterday to us and how essential is for us today in teaching
methods and everything else.” New technology is first and foremost an
opportunity to rethink teaching methods in order to make the most of the human potential of learners and teachers
alike. “
Based on the Literary Review of Yong Zhao, a
specific technology may hold great educational potential, but, until it is used
properly, it may not have any positive impact at all on learning. And that’s the
power we have as teachers, to use the technology in the interest of ours and to ameliorate
the teaching method.
This was my first reflection and I am very excited for this new journey, thank you for visiting my blog.
See you next week.

First of all, I congratulate you for the work. I like the fact that you started with a statement and then connected it with your personal opinion related to the topic. You mentioned the most important advantages and then a disadvantage that clearly explained to us the unrealistic expectations we have from technology.
ReplyDeleteIn the end you you mentioned Literary Review of Yong Zhao to strengthen your opinion about technology in teaching.
Thank you, Enxhi!
DeleteThank you ,Stelina!
ReplyDeleteI would also like to stress that your post is quite elaborate and the quote that you have chosen to start your post is just right within a new context with the integration of technology into teaching. Nice start :)
