"We are learning through projects because in the future we will have to do projects and not read things out of a book and memorize it." Madi

Hello everyone and welcome again to my Blog

Today I am gone reflect on Project-Based Learning (PBL).

PBL is an approach to teaching designed to allow students to develop knowledge and skills through engaging projects that revolve around challenges and problems they may face in the real world.

If we stop to think, life is made up of small tasks that we must solve to move forward. In this sense, when we help students have authentic experiences, we prepare them for the real world, preparing them to be self-sufficient, creative, and critical thinkers and to take on any challenge in the future.

  • In short, if we want to prepare students for success in life, we must prepare them for a project-based world. Therefore, when relating the benefits of project-based learning to students, we must always include real-world application examples. This will reinforce to students that they can break down future problems into their components, and assemble and lead a diverse team of stakeholders to process the problem and implement a solution.

The ABP model consists of the following 7 characteristics:

  • Focuses on a large, open-ended question, challenge, or problem for the student to investigate and answer or solve.
  • It brings into the equation what students should know, understand, and be able to do academically.
  • It is inquiry-based, stimulates intrinsic curiosity, and raises questions as it helps students search for answers.
  • Use 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity, among others.
  • Incorporates student opinions and choices into the process.
  • Provide opportunities for feedback and review of the plan and project, just like in real life.
  • It requires students to present their problems, research process, methods, and results, just like scientific research or real-world projects should be before peer review and constructive criticism.

In the traditional method of learning, short-term memorization and summative evaluation are practiced; in contrast, the PBL allows students to engage deeply with the targeted content, making for a much more effective focus on long-term retention.

On the other hand, PBL also improves students' attitudes toward education, thanks to its ability to keep students engaged: the PBL structure lends itself to developing intrinsic motivation because it centers student learning around a central question or problem and a significant result. Finally, students end up wanting to understand the answer or solution.

As a final point, this model also improves students' technological skills. The PBL helps students develop teamwork and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively with others. The collaborative nature of the projects also reinforces the social and emotional learning (SEL) programs that are already being implemented in schools around the world.

  1. I read it carefully and the quote as a title it hit different, i like your creativity Hanife . It made me think that how right you are , projects will haunt us until we die and instead of making our students some robots we just try to teach them some useful skills for the future. The way you mentioned the steps is really helpful as well . You kept it neat and short as a blog which is an impressive skill as well. You mentioned traditional learning as well and the benefits students get in technology which is our present . Great job !!
